Sven Zetterberg

Læs her, hvad Bo «Mr. Bo »Carlsson siger:
“I år ville Sven Zetterberg have fyldt 70 år.

Sven Zetterberg

When we talk about blues musicians outside of America, one of the most authentic artists is Swedish Sven Zetterberg (March 28, 1952 – December 21, 2016). Zetterberg was the uncrowned king of European blues, an outstanding singer, songwriter, guitarist, and harmonica player with extraordinary skills and his own recognizable style.

Sven died only a few days after he had finished the Christmas tour of 2016, seventeen concerts around Sweden. He gave everything to the blues he loved so much, to his audience. That was really what his life was all about.

If he was popular in Sweden, he was almost as popular in Denmark, Norway, Finland, and many European countries.

In Denmark, Sven Zetterberg & Chicago Express was one of the great experiences at the Djurs Bluesland festival in the early nineties and he has since played at the Frederikshavn Blues festival several times + many club jobs around the country.

Sven Zetterberg played in the time until 1996 with Telge Blues, Blues Rockers, Blue Fire, Four Roosters, and Chicago Express. After that, he continued as a solo artist in several constellations and he toured with i.a. Jimmy Rogers, Jimmy McCracklin, Louisiana Red, and Luther Allison. Sven has meant a lot to blues and soul music lovers in Scandinavia and many other places.

Unfortunately, he died only 64 years old. This year, Sven would have turned 70 years old, and we mark this with a tribute concert at the Blues Heaven festival with musicians who have played with and been close to the man throughout his 44-year-long career.

The concert will be performed by musicians from what was Sven Zetterberg Blues Band plus Swedish Mr. Bo and Marino Valle. It is gratifying that all these great musicians have agreed to join.

Read here what Bo «Mr. Bo »Carlsson says:
“This year Sven Zetterberg would have turned 70. I myself met Sven for the first time in 1975 – I already saw then that he had the format as artists on a par with Sonny Rhodes, Floyd Dixon, and LC” Good Rockin “Robinson. I immediately became a fan, and I continued to be through all the years. Sven was a unique artist and person – his total empathy and his knowledge were unique.
Blues and soul became his life, he wanted to share the treasure he carried in his heart and he did it like no other. Sven was also special in the way he encouraged and supported the rest of us who were trying to go the same ways as him. It could be a phone call filled with positive words after we played at the same festival, and sometimes a message was waiting for the answering machine. The blues environment has become poorer without Sven – both his music and his person meant so much to so many.
Sven was a fantastic stage artist, but he was also a composer with an unusual ability to write in the blues and soul tradition, always personal with lyrics that he usually took from his own life experiences. Being able to perform Sven’s songs with a number of brilliant musicians who have all had a relationship with Sven and his music is an honor and a task of honor. “
